"President's Message,"

as published in the IAWM Journal, February 1995, pp. 26.

I would like to extend a greeting to all former members of ILWC and AWC-and to welcome you as the new members of the IAWM (the International Alliance for Women in Music).

As most of you know, the merger became official as of January 1, 1995, and we are now in the process of effecting a smooth transition in matters large and small (everything from maintaining non-profit status under our new name to designing stationery with a new logo).

Our activities continue unabated, even strengthened by having joined forces. In particular, I would like to invite you to attend our annual concert on Sunday, June 11, 1995 at 3:00 p.m. at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. This recital of competition winning members' works, performed by the renowned Capital Woodwind Quintet, promises to be a first-rate affair (in fact, last year's concert received a glowing review in The Washington Post).

This concert will also mark a particularly festive occasion; it will be followed by a Founders' Celebration, honoring Tommie Ewert Carl (of AWC), Jeannie Pool (of ICWM), and Nancy Van de Vate (of ILWC). We will pay tribute to the unique, historic role which they have played in the struggle for women's music and applaud the vision, energy and commitment which they and their followers brought to the task.

Saturday and the earlier portion of that Sunday will be given over to organizational meetings. If you are interested in taking an active role in charting a course for IAWM, please come and join our work. To find our further details and make arrangements, please contact the IAWM office: Sasha Kennison, IAWM administrative assistant, George Washington University, Department of Music, The Academic Center B144, Washington, D. C. 20052; telephone (202) 994-6338.

With best regards,

Stefania de Kenessey
